FIS SNOWBOARD EUROPACUP
25-27.11.2016 SNOWPARK KAUNERTAL
For the second time in Snowpark Kaunertal history the FIS Snowboard Slopestyle Europacup was hosted at the Kaunertal Glacier. First qualification points for the Olympic games 2018 were on the plate for 70 riders out of 19 nations to win. The international rider field brought some pre-olympic vibes and an extremely high level of riding to Snowpark Kaunertal.
2 rankings on one weekend
In cooperation with FIS and die Austrian skiing association (ÖSV), the Kaunertal Glacier organization committee (Kaunertal Gletscherbahn and Skiclub Kaunertal) decided to offer two rankings. One each day of competition. The outcome was, that the athletes out of for example the states, Russia, Sweden, France, Poland and China, had the chance to gather double the quali-points on this one weekend.
After this high-flying weekend riders and the organization committee declared the Snowpark Kaunertal as one of the most promising underdog Snowparks for high-class competitions. Not just because of the long history the snowboard industry and the glacier share. Future events are already in the planning. Therefor the park setup at the open- and contest park as well as the new Half Mile Jib Line live up to what they ought to be- a hell of a playground.
